YOUR DOG

I am as savory as I am sweet
I am as lonely as a desert tree
I am a riddle and you can have it
I am a bird but mostly I’m a maggot

I am surprised at all I never say
How do I make it through a single day
I’m a riddle that no one can answer
A single sorrow in a world of laughter

But then I turn my head in a dead sea
You swim out far enough to reach me
But now the shore is a memory
Who now will help you when you sink deep

When I turn my head, the turn is over
I went and picked you like a clover
And in a minute on the back deck
I’m back to asking, what the fuck man

I am aware I am alone
I am your dog, can you just throw me a bone
I’ll find a rug and go to sleep
And in the morning i’ll be back at your feet

I am as twisted as a knotted rug
I am as hollow as the hole I dug
I am a fiddle and you can play me
I have potential but iI’m mostly lazy

I’m not surprised at what I turn to see
How many ways can I be dead to me
I’m a fiddle with a song in minor
A single sitter in a shitty diner

But then I turn my head and in a dark cloud
I see a single sliver light now
I hadn’t seen it in a long time
How fucking lucky, it’s a good sign

When I turn my head, it may be over
But I’ll still keep a lucky clover
And maybe save it for a rainy day
When I have nothing left to say, save

“I am aware I am alone
I am your dog, can you just throw me a bone
I’ll find a rug and go to sleep
And in the morning I’ll be back at your feet”
